In this community workshop/platica we will discuss both the strengths of a family-centered culture as well as past and current family wounds. In this individualistic society, the interconnectedness of Chicanx families is often devalued and mischaracterized. Valuing cultural traditions in our families can be a source of strength, pride, and also conflict. We will discuss how to heal some of these wounds while also finding ways to honor our passed down cultural strengths of familismo. Healthy interdependence is a cultural strength we need to build on and is one piece of our liberation & healing!

This Webinar plática is a recognition, re-connection and celebration of the wellness and healthy ways of living that are present in our community as well as our ancestral legacy of health and healing. Negative stereotypes portray our culture as being unhealthy. We are do not have an unhealthy culture. The unwellness in our community (currently & historically) comes from colonization, marginalization, exclusion, and oppression.
